Description: The 2025 version of generalized zoning updated the county level zoning from the previous version by aggregating zoning map updates, text amendments, and zoning overhauls that are provided by the counties. It also updated the generalized zoning for all municipal annexations that MDP received for review since the 2020 update though September 2025. Zoning updates not related to annexations for municipalities with zoning authority will be updated at a later date. Generalized zoning data is not meant to substitute for local zoning information and should not be used to determine permissible uses or other potential development of a specific property. For information on local zoning, contact the local zoning office for the county or municipality in which you are interested. Fields include:Generalized Zoning (String, 30) – Generalized zoning based on MDP generalized zoning categories and dwelling units per acre as described by a zoning ordinance. Generalized Zoning Categories (String, 255) – Link to Maryland Department of Planning Generalized Zoning Categories (word document). Jurisdiction Code (String, 4) – Four letter county code: ALLE (Allegany), ANNE (Anne Arundel), BACI (Baltimore City), BACO (Baltimore County), CALV (Calvert), CARO (Caroline), CARR (Carroll), CECI (Cecil), CHAR (Charles), DORC (Dorchester), FRED (Frederick), GARR (Garrett), HARF (Harford), HOWA (Howard), KENT (Kent), MONT (Montgomery), PRIN (Prince George’s) QUEE (Queen Anne’s), SOME (Somerset), STMA (St. Mary’s), TALB (Talbot), WASH (Washington), WICO (Wicomico), WORC (Worcester). MUNICIPALITY_NAME (String, 50) – Name of municipality if zoning is municipal. A blank value ' ' means zoning comes from the county zoning.UPDATEYR (String, 10) – Date (YYYYMMDD) of when MDP collected the generalized zoning data from the local jurisdiction. It should be noted that this is not necessarily the same date as when the local government updated its zoning map.
